Working on these books can be like doing a connect-the-dot puzzle. The first dot in SF was Danny Hess, whose custom-built, wood surfboards caught my eye. I was playing phone tag with him on the day I was shooting Outerlands and General Store. While in GS, I was lusting for a vintage chair and Mason told me that Josh, the designer, had a studio a couple of blocks away with a guy building surfboards. Ding ding ding. I followed the dots to Woodshop, a big workspace that also houses Jeff, an amazing sign painter and Luke who handcrafts furniture from reclaimed wood. Dots connected.
